About Cape Town Safari

A guide to safaris from Cape Town

Cape Town Safari is an independent guide for everyone who wants to see Africa's big animals during a stay in Cape Town. Here you will find how the private game reserves of the Western Cape compare, what a day at the reserve near Touws River involves, which Big Five day trips leave from the city, how the 2- and 3-day safaris to the Karoo and the Garden Route work, how to get from Cape Town to Kruger National Park, where to stay in comfort, how to plan a safari with children, and what the Marine Big 5 boat trip from Gansbaai shows you.

The site is available in English and five additional languages. It is written first in English.

How we research

Every number on our pages comes from a source that we link to at the bottom of the page: South African National Parks for Kruger and Addo, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for malaria, South African Tourism for the coast at Gansbaai, and the reserves' own official sites for what each reserve is and offers. The month-by-month climate figures are NOAA's 1991 to 2020 records for the Laingsburg station in the Karoo, and the day length is our own calculation. Information on tours, that is duration, stops, languages, inclusions, and starting prices, is taken from the offers on GetYourGuide and Viator. If a source does not provide something, we do not write it.

A reserve's own site tells you what it offers, not how it compares with others, and no source can promise you a lion on a given afternoon. That is why we tell you plainly what each reserve and listing states, where the sources disagree, and leave the choice to you.

How we make money

Cape Town Safari is funded through the GetYourGuide and Viator affiliate programs. When you book through one of our links, we receive a commission; your price remains the same. There are no advertising banners here, and we do not sell your data.

Who is behind it
